“Empty pockets teach you a million things,” this was said to me by a leading practitioner who happens to be my relative. I was very young then, in no position to understand what he meant. Few years down the line, when he was in his mid-50’s, he was diagnosed with Leukaemia (advanced stage), it came as a blow to us all. His fight against the disease was valiant but short-lived, yet, he left his family with more than enough resources to go on. Time went by, and soon his family was left with little funds, call it bad luck or bad investments, as per my cousin “Our ship sank cause it lost its captain in high tides.” The truth, however, was a bit different and bitter. My uncle worked hard, putting his blood and sweat into making that fortune was betrayed by his kin after his death. His only son…

Candles Online

“Yes ! Money is the thing that’s making our worlds spin”, this was a quote taught to me by my father as a child. I never completely was able to realize its real power until I myself experienced the difference it makes in my life and those around me.

A few years ago, I was respected, adored, appreciated, loved, sought and pampered by everyone who worked for me directly or indirectly. The street guard would give a stiff salute upon seeing me, he would say Namaste and ask about my wellbeing, how humble I thought. A masseur came for papa, all the way from Birla Mandir, he would daily bring flowers and Prasad from the temple, and tell me how good and beautiful I am, and made me laugh till my belly hurt by reciting anecdotes from temple life. The wait staff at hotels would come running on the nod…

Value and Price !

via Daily Prompt: Value

Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. What is the value of a hand on your forehead as you burned in the fever? What is the value of a father playing Ludo with his son? What is the value of kiss given by a lover with a goodbye? What is the value of a chat over coffee with your best friends as she helped you talk? What is the value of a husband wiping his wives tears? Let me tell you, they are invaluable!
download-18Once I bought something for a someone special, it was his first day of job in a very reputed company, he had bought a new wardrobe, ties, shirts, shoes, accessories, etc. , and I decided he needed something to complete the look. On the morning he got dressed meticulously, wearing crisp and ironed shirts, pleated trousers, making that perfect tie knot, polished shiny shoes, all accessories in place, and my heart did a somersault to see him look like a gentleman, but something lacked. I presented him with the small box, I had bought them from eBay, a pair of cuff links, smooth, cabochon cut, the satellite stones set into a sleek, beautiful, natural colour variation framed by a textured surround, sterling silver from Harrods of London for 300 Pounds. His eyes lit up as he opened the box and as he saw what was inside, his face fell, he looked at me with a helpless look and returned me the box saying he won’t take such a costly gift from me, I looked up at his face in surprise, feeling rejected and insisted that he can’t say no to my gift of love, but he wouldn’t accept them and kept them back in my bag, tears of hurt rolled down my face, and he wiped them with the back of his hand. “I want something from you, I demand it, but it should be yours, it shouldn’t be Mohamed Al-Fayed’s”, his comment made me laugh, and I nodded understanding his point. I took a pen from my purse, a simple Uniball pen, but it was my lucky pen, I had kept it with me forever, given all exams from that one pen and gave it to him, he took it, kissed it, and tucked it in his pocket. “This you are never getting back, come what may”, he told me with a smile, and my heart warmed up, and this time another kind of tear rolled down my eyes as I looked up at him, the pen sat in his breast pocket proudly and looked perfect there, he looked complete.

I came back home with the 300 Pound cuff links, but that day he taught me a precious lesson, Brand are sold and bought, they have a price tag, they can be purchased by anyone, for anyone, but feelings, are treasured and cherished, they hold a Value, they can be only be reciprocated, and that too by someone who considers your effort invaluable. So never value things just for their price tag and never put the price tag to things that have a value.
